Paul Lauria, Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police in Mt Pleasant, Michigan, speaks with opposition to the commissioners proposal for discussion to enforce an Immigration Trust Act (aka Sanctuary City). Doing so would prevent local law from cooperating with Ice.

HIGHLIGHTS of Chief Lauria's position:

1. Our officers are Federally Deputized due to half of MP being tribal ground. This would require other policy changes and decisions with the tribe.

2. In the history of the MP City Police, there have been ZERO documented expired visas on students.

3. He states "...the commission realizes that we have no control over ICE." and that they have been in town just twice in the last several months. He has received a call indicating when that happens. He'd rather know than not to ensure that "...things are done correctly..."

THE COMMISSION, at this time, has stated that "I think the most consensus for direction sounds to be to maintain our current policies."

🙏🏼 THANK YOU CHIEF LAURIA and MP City Law Enforcement for keeping us safe!

🙏🏼 THANKS ALSO to Doug LaBelle II who submitted public comment on this topic. See below.
